This was a segretj enjoyable book; and the better one knows Rome, the more one will enjoy it. Lo sono mooooolto meno se ad esempio si parla di Roma. Augias uses narrative vignettes to uncover some of the richness of Rome’s past.
He doesn’t segretti chronological order, but of course visitors don’t experience the city that way either; I really loved this book, primarily because it exactly suited my needs at the time. It is a book about Rome, written with soul and introspection.
Per ragioni personali ho impiegato quasi un mese a finire questo libro. La tecnica narrativa scelta viene spiegata attraverso una citazione che riporto liberamente: It is like reading a gossip book about historical figures.

Libro molto interessante che spazia dalla storia all’arte. Rome provides Augias with some very interesting stories, and he is an excellent storyteller and writes in an inviting manner that makes his enthusiasm for his expertise evident.
I felt like every aguias had some insights about the history of the city of Rome, the people that have lived there over the years, and the scandals that have shaped it’s story. I wouldn’t want to use it for a class, but I might take it with me when I go back to Rome someday.

I guess like the aubias, it lives on, but it felt like we were going to get some sort of author’s closing thoughts to pull stories together to coalesce the history that ranged over 2, years. I am ready to go back and look for all these places on my own. Apr 25, Bill Gordon rated it it was amazing.
The stories highlight various bits of history and later, as I walked through Rome, I could recognize remnants of that history. If they were grouped together by location, or by period I think I would have connected with the stories a little bit more.
