The most interesting aspect of this book was the four page introduction by Leonard Maltin, which unfolds the story of how Dahl had paired raold with the brothers Disney Walt and Roy in the days of the Second World War to bring this tale of mythical creatures to life in a full-length animated cartoon.

Roald bought 50 copies to send out, delivering one to the first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, gdemlins responded with enthusiasm and was said to have read the story to her grandchildren.
